Rager Lloyd & Co. Palatine, WV 1 Gallon Crock Item No. 23-027-50
Here’s an uncommon 160+ year-old merchants jar from Rager Lloyd & Co. of Palatine, WV in excellent condition. This is one of only 3 Rager Lloyd pieces that have surfaced in the past 4 or 5 years. The town of Palatine, WV was incorporated in 1838. In 1843 Palatine, WV became a part of what is now Fairmont, WV. The letters in the name RAGER LLOYD & CO. are slightly larger than ½ inch high. They form an arch over a stencil flower with 5 leaves. The letters PALATINE, WV are under the stencil flower and stretch between both ends of the arch. This 10 inch tall jar also has 3 freehand stripes. The jar is not stained. The color variation is caused by 2 different clays that were used in the making of this crock. Crock is better looking than the photos. An uncommon WV piece of stoneware that is not often found in excellent condition. |
