Ben Franklin
Pt. Pleasant, WV
Merchant Wax Sealer
Item No. 23-010-50

I have done enough research to realize that this is a rare jar from "B. Franklin, Dealers in Drygoods, Groceries, & C. (coffee?), Point Pleasant W.V." This rare West Virginia stoneware jar is from the 1870s. I was told old Ben was a successful businessman & a magician!! The cobalt writing on the jar is just gorgeous with a strong and bold contrast to the gray/blue stone jar. It is near mint condition an only has a couple small chips inside the wax seal. The bottom is flawless and so is the rest!! I think the picture does a good job on this one!! A great rare addition in any stone crock collection! Additional history: The original store still stands; of course it has been updated several times. The store is located downtown on the main street, not far from where the old silver bridge crossing was located.
