Here’s a very desirable 3 gallon “churn” from James Hamilton & Co. (1851-1880) of Greensboro, PA in excellent condition. The stencil decoration has 1 inch tall letters reading JAMES HAMILTON & CO. in a striking arched pattern. Inside this pattern is GREENSBORO, PA in ½ inch tall letters. The arched name frames a wonderful 3½ inch tall stencil rose. A freehand line at the top and bottom along with the stencil 3 highlighted with accents complete the eye catching decoration for this 14 inch tall churn. The 2 perfect handles are accented in a blue wash. Has an incised ring at the top that is covered by the freehand blue stripe. Ring has a minor flea bite. Has a kiln kiss to the left and right of the bottom freehand stripe that does not draw your eye. An over all outstanding piece of stoneware in wonderful condition. Very clean inside. No chips, no cracks, no flakes, no fry, no spiders and no repairs. |
