This very wonderful and rare WV merchant wax sealer is 1 gallon in size and reads Stealey & Bookman, Successors to Jon.Porter, Dealers in Staple & Fancy Groceries Dry Goods & C. (coffee?), St. Marys, W.Va. It is nicely decorated with two straight and one squiggly horizontal cobalt blue lines. It does have some chips around the top of the inside which is from use, but no cracks. It has a very small place above the name Stealey where the glaze is flaked off. The crock does have a nice ring when tapped. A wonderfully rare addition to any WV marked stoneware collection.
