3 Striper
SW PA (Greensboro/New Geneva)
1 Gallon Wax Sealer
Item No. 23-043-50

Here is an unusually large striper wax sealer. Typically, you will find smaller ½ gallon and quart sized crocks with this simple, multiple stripe decoration, but this 1 gallon tapering wax sealer boldly displays three freehand cobalt blue stripes. The top stripe measures 9 inches long with the middle stripe measuring 10 ¼ inches long and the bottom stripe measuring 10 1/8 inches long. The tapering wax sealer measures 10 3/8 inches tall with a circumference of 15 ¼ inches under the rim lip and a circumference of 22 ¾ at the base. The crock is in good condition with normal rim wear from use and a few manufacturing flaws including imperfections in the clay under the glaze and an area to the right of the crock that was not glazed over probably due to another crock resting against it in the kiln. Obviously, the decoration on this wax sealer does not help us identify the manufacturer, but I believe this crock to be a Greensboro, P.A. piece based simply based on the fact that this wax sealer was purchased from an estate sale of a Greensboro, PA collection. A nice addition to any stoneware collection.
