A.P. Donaghho
Parkersburg, W.Va.
3 Gallon Zipper Crock
Item No. 23-039-50

This 3-gallon zipper crock measures 13 inches tall and a hair less than 30 inches around the widest part. It is stenciled in cobalt: A.P. Donaghho Parkersburg WV. The stenciling of the zipper is quite unique. The blue is still very rich. It is in remarkably good condition. There are a few small chips from the handles, some discoloration on the body of the crock and some bites on the bottom. There are two very fine cracks, one about 2 inches long going from just under the rim down, and one about 1 inch long going from under the rim down. All in all, a very desirable piece for the serious collector.

Brief History

Alexander Polk Donaghho was a successful potter in Fredericktown, P A, for about 15 years, starting in 1855. By 1870, A.P. Donaghho had moved to Parkersburg, WV, where he started the A.P. Donaghho Pottery Company. His company was on 14 acres near Bull Creek, which was known as "Pottery Junction" by the locals. Products produced by him usually had "A.P. Donaghho" or "Excelsior Pottery" on them. Pottery production continued (after his death in 1899) until 1903 or 1904, when it went out of business. Then, in 1906, family heirs sold the land on which the company had stood.
