A.P. Donaghho
Parkersburg, W.Va.
3 Gallon Crock w/ Zipper Design
Item No. 23-047-50

This is a wonderful 3 gallon crock by A. P. DONAGHHO, PARKERSBURG, WV. Dating to the late 19th century, this beauty stands 13" tall and sports a top capacity mark surrounded by a ring of dots and wings, a center band composed of a fancy geometric zipper decoration, and the company logo at the bottom. Good light background color and complete stenciling. Very good condition with only two minor apologies. One is a chip to the back of the right lug handle. The other is a 5" vertical hairline in the upper middle of the back with a horizontal arm left 1" and right 3" that stops at the shoulder. I can only see about 3" of the vertical line on the inside. The rest is surface only. That is about it. No chips or repairs. A great addition to any A.P. Donaghho collection.

Brief History

Alexander Polk Donaghho was a successful potter in Fredericktown, P A, for about 15 years, starting in 1855. By 1870, A.P. Donaghho had moved to Parkersburg, WV, where he started the A.P. Donaghho Pottery Company. His company was on 14 acres near Bull Creek, which was known as "Pottery Junction" by the locals. Products produced by him usually had "A.P. Donaghho" or "Excelsior Pottery" on them. Pottery production continued (after his death in 1899) until 1903 or 1904, when it went out of business. Then, in 1906, family heirs sold the land on which the company had stood.
